Violetville Demonstration Garden

🌿 Founded 2021

✅ Accepts volunteers

Initiated in 2021, the Violetville Demonstration Garden focuses on growing vegetables and berries surrounded by native pollinator gardens on about 1/4 acre of land. It is the site of local gardening meetings with the goal of supporting neighbors in southwest Baltimore who want to grow their own vegetables and native plants. Vegetables are distributed to neighbors who are also invited to cooking demonstrations.

The garden is based on the values of sustainability, a right to public health, and equity. We strive to use practices that support health and the environment such as growing vegetables without chemicals, using native plants to support pollinators and other wildlife, managing storm water runoff to protect the Chesapeake Bay and the neighborhood from flooding. The mission of the Violetville Demo Garden is to provide a space where we can build community in our neighborhood by planting, growing, cooking and otherwise experimenting together.
